The ecoFLATS project is a groundbreaking effort to help residents collectively reduce their energy use and carbon footprint. The 18 unit apartment building has a central high efficiency natural gas boiler, A 20kW solar PV system which provides electrical energy to offset tenant usage and a 16 collector solar hot water system reduces gas usage. By using the monitoring tools, which display electrical energy usage by apartment, as well as total building progress towards net zero, the group hopes to effect behavioral energy usage.
